HCA Healthcare® Data Breach Exposed The Healthcare Information Of Tens Of Millions Of Patients

US healthcare giant HCA Healthcare® confessed that an unknown, unauthorized party exposed in an online forum the sensitive personal information of patients from hospitals in over 20 states. The information breach resulted from a theft from an external storage location used to automate the formatting of email messages. The data breach includes:

  • Patient names, cities, states, and zip codes;
  • Patient emails, telephone numbers, dates of birth, genders; and
  • Patient service dates, locations, and subsequent appointment dates.

Patients or Their Families Impacted By The HCA Healthcare® Data Breach May Be Eligible For Compensation

HCA Healthcare®, a leading healthcare provider in the U.S., has reported a significant data breach affecting approximately 11 million patients.

The breach came to light following a post on a notorious cybercrime forum where the alleged hacker claimed to be selling the stolen data.

The compromised data, as confirmed by HCA Healthcare®, includes patient names, addresses (city, state, and zip code), email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, gender, and service dates, such as locations and details about upcoming appointments.

However, HCA Healthcare® assures that the breach did not involve clinical or financial information.

HCA Healthcare® operates 180 hospitals and 2,300 sites across numerous U.S. states and provides private healthcare services in the U.K.

The breach reportedly affected over a thousand HCA Healthcare® hospitals and facilities across 20 states.

The circumstances surrounding the breach remain unclear.

The hacker reportedly contacted HCA Healthcare® on July 4th, giving them until the 10th to meet unspecified demands.

HCA has not disclosed when they first became aware of the data theft or how the data was stolen.

The healthcare giant stated that the data theft originated from an external storage location used exclusively for formatting email messages.

It remains uncertain whether HCA Healthcare® or one of its vendors manages this external storage location or whether it was compromised by the hacker or inadvertently exposed by the organization.

HCA Healthcare® spokesperson Harlow Sumerford declined to comment on the matter.

This incident marks another significant medical data breach in the U.S. following the Fortra mass hack.

Eligible victims are encouraged to request a free, private case evaluation by our experienced legal staff with the potential for compensation and justice.
